Joost Verhagen

Joost Verhagen was born in 1975 in Oudenbosch. He studied at the Art Academy of Rotterdam and then furthered his education at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. 

Joost then stepped away from the world of visual arts, to hold a career in real estate and infrastructure. Then in early 2014 he decided to focus solely on art, returning to his passions for painting and drawing. 

Joost Verhagen portraits and landscapes 

His recognizable painting style of abstract portraits and landscapes is particularly characterized by coarse structures and a mixed composition of lines. He draws much of his inspiration for abstract landscapes from his three years spent living in the rugged landscape of Australia.This awe inspiring expanse of the country, featuring approaching hurricanes and imposing sandstorms, recur often in his work.
